During the 2020 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors had the opportunity to select LaMelo Ball as the second overall pick. However, the Dubs opted to draft James Wiseman, which allowed the Charlotte Hornets to pounce on LaMelo at No. 3.

LaVar Ball has recently shed more light on this decision by the Warriors organization that denied us of ever witnessing a Stephen Curry-LaMelo Ball backcourt partnership. According to the outspoken patriarch of the Ball family, the main reason why Golden State passed on LaMelo was because of Steve Kerr (h/t 95.7 The Game on Twitter):

As LaVar described in his statement, he and Steve Kerr were previously involved in a bit of a war of words. Kerr once described LaVar as the Kardashian of the NBA, to which Ball fired back by saying that Kerr was the Milli Vanilli of coaching. It was a pretty hilarious back-and-forth between the pair, but it seems that this has led to a major missed opportunity for the Dubs. At least according to LaVar Ball.

LaMelo Ball playing alongside Stephen Curry with the Warriors would have been a sight to see. Then again, you also have to question the fit. The Dubs are one of the best and most professional organizations in the NBA right now, so I honestly doubt that a little beef between Kerr and LaMelo's father was the underlying reason behind their decision to go for James Wiseman instead.
