The Golden State Warriors entered the 2018-19 NBA season as the clear favorites to win the Larry O’Brien Trophy – again. However, things are currently not looking smooth in the Bay Area, as the Warriors suddenly find themselves in an unfamiliar position – at least during the Steve Kerr era.

After the Warriors absorbed a lopsided 125-93 loss at home against Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, Golden State has, for the first time since Steve Kerr took over as the team’s head coach in 2014,  lost four consecutive games.

Apart from that, this losing skid is the longest for the franchise since 2013. If the Warriors could not get it together soon enough, they’re going to be in danger of extending that unpleasant streak. It’s not about to be easier for the defending champions, though. If they are to rebound from their defeat against the Thunder, they will have to do it versus a dangerous Portland Trail Blazers unit that’s powered by the dynamic duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum this coming Friday at home.

The Warriors are missing All-Stars Draymond Green and Stephen Curry, which could explain why the team is bumbling right now. Green has missed each of the Warriors’ last three games with a toe issue, while Curry hasn’t played since Nov. 8’s home loss to the Milwaukee Bucks because of a groin ailment.

Still, the Warriors have enough tools for them to have beaten any of their past four opponents in the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and the Thunder.

In any case, the season remains relatively young, so there’s plenty of time for the Warriors to wake up from their slumber.
