The Golden State Warriors opened up their summer league on Monday night but took care of some business beforehand, signing their first-round pick Jacob Evans to his rookie contract.

The former Cincinnati Bearcat was taken with the 28th overall pick in last month's draft. Evans is a perfect fit for the Warriors because he can play multiple positions. With the Bearcats, he usually played off the ball but was the guy with the leather in his hands when crunch time came. On defense, he could guard three positions and that is needed in today's switching NBA.

“He's the real deal when it comes to versatility,” said Cincinnati associate head coach Larry Davis via Warriors.com. “He's not Kyle Korver as a shooter. He's not Kyrie Irving as a scorer. He's not as good as those guys at either one of those things, but he's pretty good at both. I tell scouts all the time, he can play one, two or three, and guard them, too. If he gets switched off onto a four, he can fight them off.”

His first chance to impress will be in the summer league, but don't expect him to sit at the end of the bench once the Warriors season starts.

Steve Kerr has also leaned on his young guys to play heavy minutes throughout the season and the expectations shouldn't be any different with Evans. Look for Kerr to get him into the rotation early, and get some NBA experience under his belt quickly.
