Despite losing to the Brooklyn Nets on opening night, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry wanted to look at the positives. One of them is the strong performance of rookie James Wiseman.

In 24 minutes of action, Wiseman chalked up 19 points and six rebounds. In the post-game presser, Curry shared that he expected to see a strong debut from the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

“I wasn’t shocked to see that,” Steph Curry said, per Alex Espinoza of NBC Sports. “He showed that in practice and our scrimmages. Very confident in what he can do. It’s good to see him get his feet wet, get some reps in.

Curry pointed out how in the fourth quarter, Wiseman showed a glimpse of what he has in the toolbox. Though most of his points for the Warriors came within the paint, Wiseman launched a 3-pointer in the fourth and swished it.

“Obviously, in the fourth quarter, he showed a little bit of his skillset, what he can do inside and out. Just getting him comfortable as possible as quick as possible. Twenty-four good minutes for him to start his career, that’s a good step for him individually.”

Understandably, Wiseman felt nervous in his first game as a Warriors player. Yet these feelings were cast to the side once Wiseman was in the game and got a few reps of live action.

“I felt a lot of jitters,” Wiseman said. “But as soon as I took my first shot attempt, everything just went out the window. I just started playing hard. I think I did really well for not playing in a year.”

The Warriors have a chance to redeem themselves on Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks.
