Head coach Gregg Popovich and his San Antonio Spurs are in the middle of a heated playoff series with the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors, but on Wednesday evening, they released some unfortunate news. Via a press release, the Spurs announced that Popovich's wife, Erin, passed away after being ill for a long period of time.

The Warriors headed to San Antonio for Games 3 and 4 of their first round series with the Spurs, and they met with members of the media to discuss what needs to happen for them to come out with a win on Thursday night. Unfortunately, minutes before their media session was set to begin, news of Erin Popovich's passing came down. Warriors star forward Kevin Durant was relayed the news as the start of his interview, and he was hit with a wave of shock and emotion.

“What…?! Man… Prayers and condolences to his family… Damn. I don't even know what to say man…

Damn…”

As if the Spurs weren't dealing with enough already down 0-2 in the series and being constantly asked about Kawhi Leonard, now coach Popovich was hit with a real life tragedy, making playoff basketball insignificant.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Popovich and his entire family as try to get through this difficult time.
