The Golden State Warriors were hoping to pick up the win against a feisty Portland Trailblazers team without two of their top players in point guard Stephen Curry and forward Draymond Green. As a result, they had to rely heavily on forward Kevin Durant and shooting guard Klay Thompson in their absence.
Needless to say, the pair managed to deliver with a 111-104 victory over the Blazers. Once again, they did it in spectacular fashion. There were even moments where head coach Steve Kerr could not contain his excitement, as evidenced by his reaction to Thompson’s 3-pointer in the third quarter:
Steve Kerr has never been shy about expressing his enthusiasm on the sidelines. To be fair, it must be difficult with all the highlight plays the Warriors produce on a nightly basis. However, this 3-pointer may have been exactly what Kerr had been preaching in terms of tough defense leading to quick buckets on offense.
As the fourth lead in the Warriors star-studded cast, Klay Thompson often goes unnoticed throughout the duration of the season. However, he has proven to be perhaps Golden State’s most volatile scorer on the nights when it is least expected. Perhaps the prospect of Thompson being able to shoulder an increased workload in the absence of two superstars is what had Kerr so giddy in the first place.
