On Friday, the Washington Football Team made a pretty surprising roster move. They cut veteran star running back Adrian Peterson.

It is not all that surprising that they decided to thin out the position a bit, but the fact that it was Peterson getting the axe shocked quite a few people.

Since the move, a lot of people have shared their feelings on Peterson, including young quarterback Dwayne Haskins. The sophomore took to Twitter to bid farewell to his 35-year-old Washington teammate.

Unsurprisingly, Haskins was a big Peterson fan growing up. Most people his age got to see the running back absolutely dominate opposing defenses, and it was fun to watch. Due to that, it had to be thrilling to be his teammate last season and get to share the field with him. It looks like Haskins has benefitted a lot from the veteran leadership of Peterson.

However, Rivera and the team made a tough decision and let the running back go on Friday.

That leaves Washington with four men at the position. This probably means that Bryce Love is set to get a lot of time as the starter. Meanwhile, Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic have clearly carved out some type of role.

Then there is rookie Antonio Gibson. It is hard to see what his job will be in 2020 but everyone is very excited about his future.

While it would probably benefit the young guys to learn from Peterson, there just wasn't room on Washington's roster to carry five running backs. And it looks like the veteran was the odd man out.

It sort of makes sense if you think about it for a minute too. Out of the five running backs, only two weren't “Ron Rivera guys.” Gibson, Barber and McKissic were all brought onto the Washington roster after Rivera became the head coach.

That leaves Love and Peterson. Love is the exciting young talent that could blossom into a star and Peterson is the 35-year-old legend. Rivera and company decided to go with youth over experience in this instance.

Haskins may have spent just one season with Peterson, but it appears he learned a lot and will forever be grateful for that time. Now Washington is looking towards the future though.
