The Chicago White Sox remain among the busiest teams in baseball.

After a stellar free agency that landed the likes of Yasmani Grandal, Edwin Encarnacion and Dallas Keuchel, the White Sox have gotten around to extending some of their young core.

The latest of those internal deals was given to third basemen Yoan Moncada, who has agreed to a five-year extension with Chicago:

The deal is for $70 million and can get as high as $90 million:

Moncada was one of the breakout stars in 2019, slashing .315/.367/.548 with 25 homers while also showing marked improvement at the hot corner.

The 24-year-old — who was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in the Chris Sale trade — was one of the best hitters in the game in the final month, slashing a ridiculous .412/.455/.647 in September to go along with three stolen bases.

It had been rumored the White Sox were pursuing an extension with Moncada in February, though talks seemed to fizzle out prior to the start of spring training. However, the White Sox have shown a steady determination to commit to their young guys, which seemed to make a deal that much more likely.

Moncada's extension comes on the heels of a six-year, $50 million deal (which could reach up to $88 million) for top prospect Luis Robert, who has yet to play a single MLB game but will almost certainly be the starter in center field come Opening Day.

The White Sox also signed Eloy Jimenez to an extension before he played his first big-league game, so this is somewhat of a trend for the South Siders.

In any case, general manager Rick Hahn and co. feel their window is now, and they want to ensure future success by keeping their core intact for years to come. Chicago is expecting to take a big step forward in 2020.
