The Chicago White Sox take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Our MLB odds series has our White Sox Diamondbacks prediction and pick. Find out how to watch White Sox Diamondbacks.

The Arizona Diamondbacks, if they are going to return to the playoffs and make an attempt to defend their National League championship, have to beat up on bad teams. If you're keeping track of what's happening across Major League Baseball, you know the National League is unusually weak this season, with only four teams having a record better than one game over .500. There is a realistic chance that two playoff teams could have losing records, which would be a searing indictment of the expanded playoff system. Obviously, however, no one expects so few teams in one league to have good records. Surely, a few teams are going to get off the deck and start playing well, right? Arizona could be one of those teams, and you're beginning to see some stirrings this week against bad teams. Arizona has knocked the stuffing out of Los Angeles Angels pitching in a series win. The D-Backs then crushed White Sox pitching on Friday in an easy win. This is what we expected to see from Arizona before the season. The Diamondbacks are flush with young talent, and this year, they added Eugenio Suarez from the Seattle Mariners. This team was supposed to be able to hit. In the first two months of the season, it didn't hit. Corbin Carroll, last season's rookie of the year, has struggled. Lourdes Gurriel has had a very difficult year, too.

Only recently have the D-Backs begun to turn things around, feasting on mediocre pitching. We'll see if this trend can continue, and if Arizona — currently two games under .500 — can escape the logjam of mediocrity in the middle of the National League.

Why The White Sox Could Cover The Spread

The White Sox send pitcher Erick Fedde to the mound. Fedde, who struggled with the Washington Nationals, has hit his stride in Chicago. The veteran is comfortable, and he has found a set of mechanics which work for him. Everything has begun to click for him. He has become a reliable starter who accounts for a notable percentage of White Sox wins and covered spreads. The White Sox are an atrocious team in general, but on nights when Fedde starts, they cover the spread a reasonable percentage of the time. Fedde's overall record would be even better if the White Sox bullpen hadn't blown a few leads, too.

The Diamondbacks are going with a bullpen game, given that Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly have been injured. That reality — a bullpen game — is precisely why you have not seen totals listed for this game, or run-line prices. The White Sox being an underdog in a Fedde start against the struggling Arizona pen looks like an attractive play.

Why The Diamondbacks Could Cover The Spread

The Diamondbacks are beginning to hit. It's that simple. It's that important. One doesn't need to make things any more complicated versus a terrible White Sox team with a horrible bullpen.

Final White Sox-Diamondbacks Prediction & Pick

The White Sox are awful, but Erick Fedde has become a really good pitcher and Arizona's bullpen is unreliable. Pass on this one.

Final White Sox-Diamondbacks Prediction & Pick: White Sox +1.5, White Sox ML
