The race for the AFC West title is over. Once again, it will be the Kansas City Chiefs representing the division in the postseason. At 9-4, the Chiefs have a three-game lead and are coming off their biggest win of the season. Kansas City has flown under the radar this season, but they are a real threat going forward.

The Chiefs just took down the New England Patriots in Foxborough. They came out with a certain attitude and energy that was visible from the coin toss. After last season's AFC Championship Game, Kansas City wanted to prove that they are the new team to beat in the AFC. As of now, they are looking like the second-best team in the conference behind the Baltimore Ravens.

Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill missed time with injuries this season. At one point, the Chiefs were missing their top two receivers, but that's not the case anymore. They're finally healthy again and are playing their best football of the season. Come playoff time, Kansas City will be right there.

The Chiefs were one offside call away from the Super Bowl last season. Nothing is guaranteed, but it is safe to say that they would have won the game over the Los Angeles Rams. In 2019, they are ready once again.

Mahomes has not received the same attention as last season because he has missed time. He is still the reigning MVP who threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns a season ago. Not to mention, the Chiefs have one of the best coaches in the league. Andy Reid is a genius on the sidelines and knows how to get his team ready to play. The offense in Kansas City is explosive once again.

One key to a good playoff team is the ability to win on the road if needed. The Chiefs are 6-1 on the road this season and picked up their statement win in Week 14 in Foxborough. This is an experienced team that has found success on the road. This is big heading into the playoffs, especially if they have to travel to Baltimore.

Let's not forget, the Chiefs already have a head-to-head win over the Ravens. This was before Baltimore's nine-game win streak made them the league's hottest team, though. Regardless, Kansas City matches up well with the Ravens. Patrick Mahomes can lead a shootout effort through the air better than Lamar Jackson, so if it came to that, the Chiefs should have an edge.

Heading into the playoffs, the Chiefs will have an MVP quarterback, a great head coach, the best tight end in football, and one of the league's top receivers. Not to mention, they can win on the road. This sounds like a recipe for another lengthy postseason run.
