The Brooklyn Nets team we saw in the bubble is nothing like the Nets team we’ll see on the court next season. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will return, and the Nets will be projected as one of the best teams in the league.

We know they’ll be good, but since Kenny Atkinson was fired back in March, we don’t know who’s going to be their head coach.

One of the big names floating around rumor mills is legendary San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. But Locked On Spurs Podcast host Jeff Garcia doesn’t believe that rumor one bit.

Jeff Garcia: For me, I think there is no smoke there is no fire, there’s not even an ember, there’s not even a match light.

These Popovich to Brooklyn rumors are not new and that’s what I keep stressing in every article that I write regarding Pop and this rumor to Brooklyn. It all started when Sean Marks took over the gig in Brooklyn as the GM, and then you bring in Tiago Splitter as a Player Development Coach. Not to mention too there’s actually former San Antonio Spurs PR guys that work in Brooklyn and there’s also other former Spurs that are now in the Nets brass behind the scenes.

Casey Viera: Their assistant head coach, Jacque Vaughn

Jeff: These rumors have been starting since 2018-ish and every year it’s almost a ritual now, ‘Pop to Brooklyn’, because Sean Marks is there. I’ve heard this time and time again Casey, I just don’t believe it.

And you mentioned about ring chasing, that’s not Popovich, I don’t think he’s a ring chaser. I know people use… that reason why he could leave for the Nets because they have a ready made team next season with KD and Kyrie. Not to mention some of the great pieces they have already on the roster in Dinwiddie, LeVert.

I just don’t see that happening, I know that reportedly Kevin Durant is a big fan of Pop, but who isn’t, seriously, who isn’t?

Whether it’s Popovich or Ty Lue or even interim coach Jacque Vaughn, whoever takes over the Nets job has a ready-made roster with expectations waiting for them in Brooklyn.
