There are two NFL teams for which Colin Kaepernick makes perfect sense at the moment. One is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The other is the New York Jets.

The Jets went into Monday night's game against the Cleveland Browns without Sam Darnold, who is out indefinitely with mono. Playing in Darnold's place was Trevor Siemian, who had some experience as a starter for the Denver Broncos.

But Siemian went down with a severe ankle injury, knocking him out for the remainder of the season.

That leaves the Jets with just Luke Falk at quarterback, and, well, yeah; that's a problem.

Even if Falk shines and plays well, he is literally the only quarterback on New York's roster, so the Jets obviously need to make a move to address this issue.

Why not Kaepernick?

Yes, he has not played since 2016, so he is certainly not in game shape, but New York literally doesn't have any other options available unless the Jets explore the scrap heap to find a backup.

I understand that placing Kaepernick in the New York media could cause a firestorm, but with the Jets being 0-2 and their season hanging on by a thread, what's the worst that could happen?

You give him a contract for this year, and if things don't turn out well, you just cut him loose during the offseason. It's that simple.

Again, things really can't get any worse for Gang Green right now, as they are 0-2 and don't appear to be showing any signs of turning things around. Even when Darnold gets back, their season is already going to be likely be over.

This Jets club just isn't good, and bringing Kaepernick in to the fold is not going to make things any worse. It's not like you have to worry about the media or fan reaction damaging the locker room and torpedoing the season, because the year is already lost to begin with.

I'm not saying Kaepernick is going to come in and turn things around for New York. I don't think anyone believes that. But he is at least an able body who has shown he can play quarterback in the NFL in the past.

It probably won't happen, but it's something the Jets should explore.
