The Dallas Wings take on the Phoenix Mercury. Our WNBA odds series has our Wings Mercury prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Wings Mercury.

The WNBA schedule has been stuffed with some weird details in the first two weeks of regular-season competition. The Dallas Wings are one of five teams in the league which have not played more than three games. The season began on May 14. In 11 days, Dallas and four other teams have played just three times. Moreover, Dallas has played one team — the Chicago Sky — twice. The Wings have therefore played only two other WNBA teams in a week and a half. It's hard to know how good or bad a given team is when its sample size of competition is so small.

Dallas had a second-half lead in its most recent game against the Atlanta Dream on May 21, but lost that lead and fell by five points in Atlanta. Dallas has had three full days off to think about that loss and prepare for this meeting with the Mercury in Phoenix.

The best scorer in the WNBA through one and a half weeks of play in 2024 is Kahleah Copper. Two games with more than 35 points over the past week and a half have enabled Copper and the Merc to move to 3-1 through four games, which is the third-best record in the W behind Connecticut and New York. The Mercury went into Las Vegas this past week and torched the reigning champion Aces, 98-88. The Phoenix offense is scoring 80 or more points on a consistent basis. The Mercury are rising because their point totals are always high. Their defense needs a little work, but Copper has been able to score enough to win most of the time. Can Copper continue to play at an elite level? It could hold the key to Phoenix's season.

Why The Wings Could Cover The Spread

The Wings are fresh and rested for this game. They also know that the Mercury, while 3-1, had a close shave earlier this week against the winless Washington Mystics. Phoenix won by only three points and failed to cover the spread as a 6.5-point favorite. The Mercury have two 3-point wins on their resume so far this season. If Phoenix wins this game by only three points, it will fail to cover.

Why The Mercury Could Cover The Spread

The Mercury, as part of their 3-1 start, have covered the spread twice — and comfortably so — against defending champion Las Vegas. Phoenix covered one spread by five points and another by 24 against the defending champs. Phoenix's only loss is to the Aces, widely viewed as the favorite to win another WNBA championship. With Kahleah Copper roasting opposing defenses, the Mercury have an elite weapon who will create lots of great scoring opportunities for her teammates. If Dallas wants to take away Copper, the Mercury have other mineral deposits they can make in this game, using ball movement and unselfish play to score at will. Phoenix has scored 80 or more in every game this season. If Phoenix again plays in the 80s, it will be hard for Dallas to keep pace.

Final Wings-Mercury Prediction & Pick

The Mercury are 3-1, but Dallas is rested and Phoenix might be in for some regression. Stay away from a pregame bet and consider a live play in the second half.

Final Wings-Mercury Prediction & Pick: Mercury -3.5
