Before the season started, Montrezl Harrell was pumped up to join the Washington Wizards. He was coming off a mediocre one-season stopover with the Los Angeles Lakers, and he was eager to prove to everyone that he's still one of the more talented dudes out there.
Harrell, always the competitive guy, did exactly that in his first few weeks with the Wizards, helping the team to a surprisingly fiery start. He looked like the stud who was named Sixth Man of the Year just two seasons ago, putting up double-double numbers off the bench.
Recently, however, Harrell has gone into a slump. While he's still getting the minutes, his touches have become fewer. On Wednesday, he once again posted a cryptic tweet that might reflect his simmering frustrations.
Is he pertaining to his sudden lack of shots? Is he pertaining to the Wizards' recent struggles? Only Harrell, the Patron Saint of Cryptic Tweets, knows.
Harrell has only put up 7.0 points on 5.o attempts per game in their last four games.
The Wizards have only won two of their last six games, needing a Kyle Kuzma game-winner to escape the lowly Detroit Pistons in their last outing. Harrell had season-lows of 18 minutes, four points, and two rebounds against the Pistons.
Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. has relied more on Daniel Gafford at center recently, leaving Harrell with fewer opportunities. He was clearly unhappy with his limited minutes with the Lakers, and it totally affected his game.
We'll see if Harrell's skid is just a blip in the Wizards' radar.
