Spencer Dinwiddie played in just three games in 2020-21 after he partially tore the ACL in his right knee. With that said, there are concerns whether he can suit up for the Washington Wizards when the new season starts in October.
However, Dinwiddie himself erased those concerns immediately as he revealed his recovery from the injury is progressing positively.
“I don't see any reason why I won't be in the starting lineup for the first game in October,” Dinwiddie said on his recovery timetable, per Chase Hughes of NBC Sports.
Wizards fans can now certainly breathe a sigh of relief. After all, they really need Spencer Dinwiddie to be at full health as soon as possible in their bid to be competitive in 2021-22.
Dinwiddie signed a three-year, $62-million deal to join the Wizards in free agency. It was completed via sign-and-trade, with the Brooklyn Nets getting a second-round pick and swap rights from Washington.
The 28-year-old guard is joining a revamped Wizards roster that also boasts the likes of Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope–all acquired from the Russell Westbrook trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. Dinwiddie is also looking to pair up with Bradley Beal in the backcourt, although the future of the explosive scorer in Washington remains unclear.
With Dinwiddie fully healthy though, the Wizards and its fans have every reason to be optimistic about their new-look squad.
