A video recently went viral of two Atlanta Dream players, Courtney Williams and Crystal Bradford, in an absolutely bonkers melee near a popular Atlanta food truck. It turns out the fight actually happened in May, and Dream co-owner Renee Montgomery went on ESPN during Wednesday's halftime show of the playoff game between the Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun to attempt some damage control.

Montgomery claimed the Dream were aware of the video back when it happened in May, but they didn't see the whole thing. Via ESPN's Mechelle Voepel:

“We saw a clip in May that was 10 to 15 seconds long, with no context,” Montgomery said. “And Coach Petersen, he talked to the players involved, and they told us that, they assured us that it was in self-defense. So we wanted to believe our players. And so, we chose to believe our players, and ultimately didn't have any disciplinary actions.

“But the thing is, we only understood the magnitude of the situation when we saw that the fuller clip was posted [over the weekend]. And again, this doesn't feel good for anyone, no one wants to feel this way. But we always want to lean in to believe in our players and believe in women, to even take it a step further.”

Here's the fight involving the two Dream players:

Williams also posted a video on YouTube in which she talked about the fight, though that was recently taken down. She was the Dream's best player this past season, but now she and Bradford will not be coming back as they hit unrestricted free agency. Their agent, Marcus Crenshaw, believes Atlanta isn't bringing either of them back because of embarrassment over the fight video and Williams' YouTube video.

The WNBA and WNBPA are currently investigating the situation further to get to the bottom of it.
