After taking Aaliyah Edwards No. 6 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft, the Washington Mystics are prepared to potentially trade the second-year forward. Multiple teams have shown interest in Edwards, and the Mystics are apparently open to hearing what they have to say.
Washington is taking offers from organizations around the W, per ESPN, showing the club is willing to part ways with Edwards after just one full season of play. Edwards’ minutes have diminished significantly since she returned from an injury leave earlier in the 2025 campaign, largely thanks to the now-crowded frontcourt that runs through star rookie Kiki Iriafen and Shakira Austin.

Edwards averaged 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 21.8 minutes of play per game while starting in 17 out of 24 matchups as a rookie. The Canadian native then missed the first four games of the 2025 WNBA season due to a low-back contusion she suffered during training camp, disrupting her flow with the team.
In her sophomore season, Edwards' numbers have dropped to 4.9 points and 3.3 boards in just 14.1 minutes per contest off the bench, demonstrating how drastically her role with the Mystics changed. Washington has moved in a new direction and, surprisingly, overperformed this season on the backs of the dynamic rookie duo of Iriafen and Sonia Citron and star guard Brittney Sykes.
Edwards is a former All-American from her collegiate days at UConn and a two-time Olympian with the Canadian national team, making her an attractive potential signing for many teams around the W with the upside of still being on her rookie contract, which is a crucial detail for clubs dealing with salary cap issues.
The Mystics have not revealed which specific teams have shown interest in Edwards, but they have until the August 7 deadline to finalize their move.
