Xbox has been reported to have seen a 50% increase in revenue in a year-on-year comparison. Within a 12-month period ending March 21, 2021, Microsoft's gaming division has been reported to have seen an increase in revenue amounting to about $15 billion. This $15 billion is a result of an increase in hardware, software, content, and services revenue for the company.

Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners covering the gaming industry, tweeted the info as a follow-up to a more detailed breakdown of the company's quarterly earnings results. As per Ahmad, “Xbox content & services revenue up 34% YoY, driven by strong software sales + Game Pass growth”

Xbox content and services' impact

Given that Xbox Game Pass subscribers surpassed 10 million in April last year, it comes as no surprise that Microsoft's earlier moves and projects are proving to pay their fair share of the company's revenue. Xbox Game Pass is a video game subscription service that gives gamers access to hundreds of titles, with more being added over time. Xbox Game Pass supports consoles, PC, and even Android devices.

Further supporting their revenue is the inclusion of their acquired assets, like ZeniMax (Bethesda). The popular developer is famous for franchises like The Elder Scrolls franchise and the Fallout franchise.

Hardware revenue was also a strong factor, seeing a 232% growth in revenue. Of course, this can be credited to the release and positive response that the Xbox Series X and Series S have attracted. Despite the continuing shortage, sales have been credited with boosting revenue during the last 2 quarters. At the end of it though, Xbox content and services proved to be the biggest impact providing 82% of the total revenue.
