The New York Yankees continue to deal with injuries, and a new name was added to their laundry list of banged-up players. After releasing their lineup for Wednesday's clash vs the Rays, the Yankees made an amendment, removing Hicks from the card. Yankees beat writer Lindsey Adler indicates that Hicks is dealing with hamstring tightness, prompting the team to give him the night off.

While Hicks has been a disaster at the plate and in the outfield for the Yankees this year, losing another key player to injury would be the worst-case scenario for the Yankees. Just this past week, the Yankees have seen Luis Gil, Aroldis Chapman, Chad Green, Jonathan Loaisiga, and Giancarlo Stanton hit the IL, while Josh Donaldson is shelved on the COVID-19 IL.

Hopefully, Hicks can avoid a stint on the Injured List, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him require some time on the shelf considering the Yankees' poor luck in the injury department of late.

This season, Hicks is slashing .209/.338/.243 with 1 home run and 7 RBI. He's stolen 5 bases, but his struggles to hit for power and to play solid defense for the Yankees have seen him fall out of favor among fans. Despite that, with so many players currently sidelined, the last thing needed in the Bronx is another veteran to hit the  IL.

In lieu of their injury woes, the Bombers signed veteran infielder Matt Carpenter to an MLB contract. He will be active for Thursday's game, hitting out of the eight-hole and serving as the designated hitter.
