The New York Yankees are in need of more firepower to get back into championship contention. Falling flat in the Wild Card Game should serve as a wake-up call to them. Among other stars, Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa is both the perfect and imperfect player for New York to chase.

On one hand, Correa has been an archrival of the Yankees for years and took a massive shot at Derek Jeter. But on the other, Correa is perhaps the best player still available in free agency, plays both sides of the game extremely well and plays a position that New York greatly needs.

Cameron Maybin, who spent half a season as Correa's teammate on the World Series champion Astros and a full season with the Yankees in 2019, said that Correa is built for the big stages and would fit in well in The Bronx.

Correa is indeed built for the big moments. He has been strong in the postseason, where he was one of the most valuable hitters for an. Astors team that made five consecutive American League Championship Series appearances. As the reigning winner of the Platinum Glove, he could provide some excellent defense in pinstripes.

The Yankees need a shortstop badly and don't have many more strong options. Trevor Story is the only notable player available in the position. Although their top prospect, Anthony Volpe, is a shortstop, he isn't expected to be a starter this season.

New York has had its sights set on Freddie Freeman but the Los Angeles Dodgers are going hard to sign him. The Yankees should go after Correa just as hard, if not harder.
