New York Yankees legend and MLB Hall of Famer Derek Jeter rocked the MLB world yesterday when he joined social media. Many notable athletes and celebrities welcomed him including but not limited to CC Sabathia, Diddy, and Alex Rodriguez.

Jeter later hilariously made an announcement congratulating himself for making it through his first day of Twitter.

Jeter was famously opposed to social media during his playing career. He preferred to keep his focus on baseball and not allow outside distractions to work their way in. And it is already difficult enough to limit distractions and outside noise playing in a huge market like New York with the Yankees.

But Derek Jeter finally caved and joined Twitter.

The Tweet he was replying to was from December 9th, 2014. Jeter retired in 2014 so this user was implying that Jeter should join the platform since his playing days were over. And he eventually signed up for Twitter eight years after the fact.

Jeter, also known as “The Captain,” is remembered as one of the most clutch players to ever play the game. He even earned the nickname “Mr. November” for smashing a walk-off home run for the Yankees in a November World Series game. Jeter is a five-time World Series champion, 14-time All-Star, 5-time Gold Glove Winner, 5-time Silver Slugger, and member of the 3,000 hit club.

Additionally, he was one of the most respected and well-known players in MLB history. The fact that the Yankees legend generated this much attention by simply joining social media eight years after retiring speaks to how beloved he truly was during his Yankees playing days.
