The New York Yankees made their first newsworthy move of the offseason on Tuesday, acquiring Alex Verdugo from the Boston Red Sox. Adding a left-handed hitting outfielder could be a message to fans that a Juan Soto trade is no longer on the table, but that is not the case. Yes Network analyst Jack Curry believes the blockbuster is bound to happen.

“I think the deal is going to get done,” he said on Yankees Hot Stove, via Talkin' Yanks. Now, this is not the first time a similar proclamation has been made. Furthermore, the Toronto Blue Jays are giving New York fierce competition in the Soto sweepstakes. And yet, the three-time All-Star wearing pinstripes is an easy image to visualize.

New York should be self-aware enough to know that its current model, despite producing postseason berths almost every year, is not getting it done against the American League's best. The 25-year-old can be the second superstar that boosts the club to the next level, and a healthy one at that (has played 150 games or more four times).

With Juan Soto back to being a solid batting average guy after hitting .275 in 2023, this might be the ideal time for Brian Cashman and the Yankees to go all in on the 2019 World Series champion. It will reportedly take a big haul to land him, but the organization has the resources to finalize this mega trade if it so chooses.

It is clear where a majority of fans lie on the matter. Now, they just have to see how committed the Yankees are to making Soto their top offseason acquisition.
