According to a report by Katherine Acquavella of CBS Sports, New York Yankees utilityman Miguel Andujar's roster spot could be in jeopardy due to a lingering wrist injury. Andujar will see a hand specialist on Monday to determine the extent of the damage. The wrist injury proves to be another obstacle in trying to gain a position on the Yankees 25-man roster.

The 26-year-old player still retains value, finishing in second place in the Rookie of the Year voting back in 2018. The club's control over the utilityman for two more years, plus the team's depth in the infield has left no room for him to fit in. This could mean that Andujar is optioned to an alternate training site to begin the season.

Since his Major League debut, Andujar has been one of the most frustrating young players in all of baseball. His performance in 2018, in which he collected a slash line of .297/ .328/ .527 along with 2.9 wins above replacement, seemed to announce a star in the making. However, the former international free agent has failed to duplicate his success. With bouts of inconsistency and an array of injuries being the key factor.

Despite dealing with ailments, Andujar has failed to record a batting average above .242 over the past two seasons. In fact, he has been a problem for the Yankees, collecting a -1.9 WAR in just over 30 games.

With New York set on ending their 11-year title drought, it is unlikely the club will extend significant playing time to Andujar. Dealing with a damaged wrist is the last thing Miguel Andujar needed to make that possibility a reality.
