The New York Yankees have activated slugger Giancarlo Stanton from the Injured List ahead of Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels, the team announced.

Reliever Dellin Betances — who suffered a partially torn left Achilles tendon — was moved to the 60-day IL to make room for Stanton:

Stanton will bat fifth and play left field on Wednesday night.

The 2017 National League MVP has not played since the end of June after suffering a PCL strain, and he has made just nine appearances for the Yankees this season after also missing time in April and May due to shoulder and bicep issues.

After a slow start to his first year in the Bronx, Stanton rebounded to post quality numbers in 2018. He hit 38 homers, drove in 100 runs and posted a 130 OPS+, dominating in June and August. However, Stanton went just 4-for-18 with six strikeouts against the Boston Red Sox during the ALDS.

Despite lengthy setbacks for Stanton, Aaron Judge and Didi Gregorius, plus a season-ending injury for Miguel Andujar, the Yankees have consistently found guys to produce in their lineup.

Free-agent signing D.J. LeMahieu has been a legitimate MVP candidate in the American League, while Gio Urshela, Gleyber Torres and Luke Voit continue to anchor the rest of the infield.

Although the Yankees are lamenting the loss of Betances, Luis Severino returned to throw four scoreless innings against the Angels on Tuesday night.

With Stanton returning to the lineup, the Yankees are beginning to get all of their stars back in action ahead of the playoffs.
