The New York Yankees have had a rough go over the past couple weeks, as they have now lost 10 out of their last 12 games, including their recent 4 game sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays. The series against the Jays was especially bad, as the Yankees achieved a feat that they haven't suffered in well over 100 years, according to Adnan Virk at MLB Network via Twitter:

To be fair to this season's Bronx Bombers, the feat is more of a testament to how consistently good the Yankees have been in their franchise history than a knock on the poor performance of this year's squad, but it's astounding nonetheless. Only one of the games was close throughout, and each game featured different contributors from Toronto.

The poor stretch of games comes at the worst time of the year possible for the Yankees, as they now sit only a half-game in front of – you guessed it – Toronto, for the second Wild Card spot in the American League. It also comes as part of what's been a frustratingly up and down season, as the Yankees were a middling team at the All-Star break, traded for new talent, reeled off a 13-game winning streak, and now have fallen into a big slump.

It's hard to identify a single problem, either, as the Yankees have had some problems with everything from starting pitching, to lack of offense, to allowing the game to get out of hand in the bullpen.

As for the Blue Jays, it seems that they can't be stopped, especially on offense. In Marcus Semien and Vladmir Guerrero Jr., they have two hitters who would be neck-and-neck with each other in the MVP race had there not been a certain two-way player in Anaheim named Shohei. The lineup runs deep as well, as George Springer, Jake Lamb, Teoscar Hernandez, and Bo Bichette would all be top of the lineup hitters on several other teams.

Who will come down with the Wild Card spots in this wild year for the American League? Will it be the Yankees? Blue Jays? Red Sox? Mariners? There's too much time left to tell
