The New York Yankees have raced out of the gate in the 2022 MLB season, as they currently own the best record in the league. Winners of seven straight, the Yankees look like a legitimate World Series contender. Their impressive start hasn't just made them that, though. It's also made them a challenger to one of the most hallowed records in franchise history, one that former star shortstop and MLB Hall of Famer Derek Jeter would be very proud of. Here's the feat accomplished by the 2022 Yankees, per Katie Sharp of Stathead and Talkin' Yanks.

Per Sharp, the Yankees have won 40 of their first 55 games. The last time they did that? Derek Jeter's Yankees in 1998. That team went on to win 114 games, the most in franchise history, along with a World Series title.

No one is saying that the 2022 Yankees will eclipse- or even match- that feat. However, these Yankees certainly at least have some similarities with Jeter's club.

The 1998 team featured an elite pitching staff, which so far, the 2022 version of the club has kept pace with. They own the lowest team ERA in all of baseball. That '98 squad also boasted the best offense in the game, as they averaged a league-leading 5.96 runs per contest.

New York has fallen a bit short of that pace in the 2022 MLB season, as they rank sixth in runs scored. However, the offense is just as feared, with MLB home run leader Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo and Gleyber Torres leading the way.

If the Yankees keep up this pace, they just might equal Jeter's 98′ squad.
