There really is no way around it – it is amazing that the Houston Texans have one win this year.

The ongoing off-field saga with Deshaun Watson and his pending legal issues, the unwillingness of any candidate to take over as head coach, and all other off-field issues certainly have impacted the on-field product that this team has produced so far this year.

As the Texans look to the future and try to leave the present behind, they need to improve their team through the draft, as adding in new, young talent is really the only way they will be able to improve and not be a consistent one-win team. With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, take a look at which two players they should either move or be interested in trading for.

Texans Trade

Brandin Cooks

Even as reports have surfaced that the team is wanting to hang onto their most valuable trade piece, Houston would be smart to move Brandin Cooks before this year’s trade deadline.

Having never really been in one place for too long, Cooks has bounced around the league a surprising amount of times for how good he is, having spent time with the Patriots, Rams, Saints, and now the Texans. Plenty of teams are desperate for wide receiver help, and Cooks is the best option on the market, or at least should be the best option on the market.

Teams like the Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, and New Orleans Saints all are in need of WR help, and Cooks would do a lot to help them improve. Plus, being contenders means that they would likely enter into a bidding war, driving up the return for the Texans.

Houston needs to move Cooks now while his value is the highest, and especially with how offenses are noticing their biggest holes being at WR, he would fetch a big-time return for a draft-pick needy franchise.

Ronald Jones

Contrary to the selling-off mindset that the Texans should have, there are a few underutilized options that Houston would be smart to go after in their attempt to rebuild. A solid buy-low option could be Ronald Jones from Tampa Bay, who is in the final year of his rookie contract and is being minimally integrated alongside Tom Brady.

Jones never really has been able to take the starting role, as he was given a shot but consistent mishaps overshadow his talent. With Leonard Fournette and Giovanni Bernard both overtaking him for snaps, his role only pops up when the team is up by a considerable amount or if he is in to give either option a rest.

If the Texans are wanting to provide some clarity to their cobbled RB core, then adding Jones into it would go a long way, as it would also help lessen the need for rex Burkhead, David Johnson, and Phillip Lindsay in the offense, since none of these players really should be earning a ton of playing time currently.

Even in the final year of his deal, Jones could prove that he is worthy of being this team’s starting back in 2022 and beyond, and he likely would not cost all that much for Houston to acquire at this year's trade deadline.
