In spite of the rumors that the WWE 2K franchise will soon be turned over to Electronic Arts, it appears that the game series will remain in 2K's hands, probably thanks to the commercial success of WWE 2K22.

Visual Concepts spent the last two years creating WWE 2K22, a soft-reboot of the franchise, and the results have been positive. The motivation must have been high for the studio, as rumors surfaced that WWE was interested in replacing 2K Sports with another sports juggernaut in the form of Electronic Arts, had WWE 2K22 not been a success. But with how the newest game in the series turned it around with what is already the most well-polished game in the series in years, it seems like these rumors will now be put to rest. While it's not perfect and still plagued with a lot of bugs, it seems like WWE 2K22 was enough to calm WWE down and let 2K Sports keep the keys to paradise for the time being.

Perhaps reacting to these rumors, Ronnie 2K posted on Twitter a picture of him along with Stephanie McMahon. The official WWE 2K account also released a picture of 2K Sports executives with Stephanie McMahon, giving the impression that business ties remain strong and healthy.

However, fans who continue to experience bugs from the game in spite of beefy updates that were meant to patch things up make these fans wish that WWE still pushes through with the EA takeover. Whether or not EA would end up making WWE 2K a better game than it is right now is up for debate, but these fans are willing to take a gamble, as they consider the game as a failure as the game still is a buggy mess for some in spite of the extra time off Visual Concepts took to fix things up. For them, this is a sign that a studio change is in check.

Meanwhile, some fans have given up on WWE 2K altogether and are just patiently waiting for the AEW game by Yuke's to come out – albeit the new console game does not have a release date yet.
