NFL free agency is just around the corner and a flurry of moves is expected to be made. Cornerback Steven Nelson is an underrated player who could be a good addition to any team.

Last season, Nelson played for the Philadelphia Eagles but was inconsistent alongside Darius Slay. Nelson is a solid corner who could help the defense improve. He is not in the top tier of cornerbacks but could be a decent second or third option.

While he won't be a priority free agent, contenders could be looking for a solid piece to shore up the corner position, and Nelson could be that guy.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

While Nelson was inconsistent with the Eagles, they still lack depth in the secondary. Re-signing him on a one-year deal would be worthwhile as he knows the scheme.

He is a physical corner and a solid tackler. Nelson won't be a lockdown corner for the Eagles but should improve next to Slay. The Eagles were a playoff team in 2021 but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Their secondary was a big weakness, as they struggled to contain offensive stars all season long.

Bringing back Nelson and making another addition could help the Eagles secondary become a great unit next season.

2. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens are a contending team in the AFC, led by star quarterback Lamar Jackson. They have a solid secondary but could use depth as Marlon Humphrey and Marcus Peters are both coming off of major injuries. Adding Nelson would make their secondary an elite unit, which would be highly beneficial to winning the competitive AFC.

The AFC is loaded with great teams built around young quarterbacks. To counter elite offenses, having a top secondary in the league is crucial. Nelson would fit well as the Ravens' third or fourth corner due to his playoff experience and physical playing style.

Last season, Nelson had 50 tackles, seven passes defended, and one interception. While these numbers aren't great, he would be a better fit playing behind Humphrey and Peters.

1. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs had a disappointing playoff exit, losing to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game. They were unable to stop the fantastic offense of Joe Burrow and company.

Nelson spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs, and a reunion would make sense for both sides. While Kansas City has a talented roster, the defense could use some work. After using the franchise tag on Orlando Brown Jr., the Chiefs may lose safety Tyrann Mathieu in free agency.

Mathieu is the star of the Chiefs defense. Whether they retain him or not, adding depth at corner would be beneficial to limiting top-tier offenses. Nelson would be familiar with the system, making him a day one fit with the team. While they will need other additions to round out the secondary, Nelson would be a great addition to the Chiefs.
