The Boston Red Sox have played well this season. They have a record of 39-25. They are performing above expectations; many thought the rotation would struggle.

Many believed the Red Sox would be in a rebuild but they have been able to play well despite trading star players over the past few seasons.

The Sox started the rebuild back in 2020 when they traded star outfielder Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Betts is one of the best players in baseball but Boston was ready to move on and build a young core.

The Red Sox have been competitive this season even with the young core and could be a threat in the playoffs.

Here are the 3 best trades the Red Sox need to make before the MLB Trade Deadline.

Red Sox trade targets:

3. Relief pitcher Greg Holland

Although Greg Holland is 35 he is still a very solid reliever. He has proven his ability to pitch in big moments as he was a big key to the Kansas City Royals' World Series run back in 2014. They lost the series but he proved his ability to pitch under big pressure.

Holland would be a solid pickup for the Red Sox. He is a veteran who could help the Sox on a playoff run even if he was a set up man. Boston should make a run for the reliever as he would help the bullpen become fortified.

2. Relief pitcher Richard Rodriguez

Richard Rodriguez is having a breakout season as he has been great for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Rodriguez has a 1.85 ERA to go along with 7 saves. He is a veteran reliever that would instantly elevate the pitching in the bullpen for the Red Sox.

It would make sense for the Pirates to move on from Rodriguez as they currently sit last in the NL Central with a record of 23-39. He is on the last year of his deal and simply doesn't fit the timeline of the Pirates team. If the Red Sox can pull off a trade for Rodriguez the bullpen could become elite.

1. Outfielder Starling Marte

The weakness of the Red Sox team has been the outfield and Starling Marte would be a perfect fit. Marte is hitting .346 on the season with the Miami Marlins. He is a solid veteran outfielder that could help the Red Sox compete while also providing leadership for the young players on the team.

Marte is a 1 time All Star and a 2 time Gold Glove Award winner. He is a very underrated player and would be a great move for the Red Sox to make.

These trades would help Boston become an even better team and make the Sox a World Series contender. They are still young team but adding a few veterans would help the team on a potential playoff run. Improving the bullpen and outfield will go a long way in making this team a true contender.

So far this season the bright spot of the team has been the lineup. It is filled with dynamic young hitters that have the potential to grow even more. While the Red Sox may not have been thought of as a contender going into the series the young core has stepped up to the challenge.

If the Red Sox can make these moves they have a true shot at a World Series title.
