The New York Knicks begin their slate of games at the 2022 NBA Las Vegas Summer League on Friday night. They did not draft anyone in the first round of last month's draft, choosing instead to add future draft capital. Still, their roster is very interesting.

The Knicks' summer-league squad features three players from last year's draft. The 34th overall pick, Rokas Jokubaitis, will not be playing but the 25th overall pick, Quentin Grimes, will be joined by 36th pick Miles McBride and 58th pick Jericho Sims in this year's exhibition games in Las Vegas.

Although New York's most well-renowned young players (RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin) will not be playing, the Knicks will be worth watching in this year's Summer League for these three reasons.

3 major reasons Knicks fans should be hyped for 2022 NBA Las Vegas Summer League

3. Jericho Sims dunks

Jericho Sims should be regarded as one of the most entertaining dunkers in the league. If he isn't, it's because the Knicks didn't give him enough opportunities to show off his outrageous hops. In last year's Summer League, he threw down one of the nastiest dunks of the whole tournament.

Although Sims got plenty of opportunities to play during the season, he may not get the same chances this year. New York signed Isaiah Hartenstein and re-signed Mitchell Robinson, locking in their center position for the next few years. For now, Knicks fans should just enjoy the outstanding dunks he will throw down in Las Vegas.

2. Seeing what Trevor Keels and Jean Montero are made of

Trevor Keels and Jean Montero were the Knicks' key draft-night additions and will be present for Summer League. Seeing how they produce against a higher level of competition will be worth watching.

Keels played at Duke alongside first-round picks Paolo Banchero, Mark Williams, AJ Griffin and Wendell Moore Jr. He has shown promise on defense and has the burly size to hold his own against professional players. On offense, he isn't a very good shooter or playmaker but should be able to drive his way into the paint. It will be super fun to see him and McBride bully offenses together and interesting to see what Keels does on offense.

Meanwhile, Montero is an absolute wild card. He came into the 2022 draft cycle as one of the best players, took his flashy game to Overtime Elite and ended up going undrafted. The 19-year-old is an electrifying ball-handler, scorer and passer that also has experience playing overseas. Summer League was built for players who can dazzle but, even though he will still be mostly going up against fringe NBA players, the level of competition will increase drastically.

Neither player, barring something unforeseen, will get a lot of minutes with the Knicks this season. Fans should watch what they do in the next week before they spend this season in the G League.

1. Watching Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride dominate

While Sims can certainly have a high impact on the games, Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride should each dominate the summer showcase.

Grimes had a promising rookie season, showcasing some tough defense and shot-making. While the Knicks looked to use him in a 3-and-D role, he has the handle to get his own shot off. He should be able to do that in the Summer League and could average around 20 points per game as New York's lead scorer.

In the G League, McBride posted some gaudy stats. Although he, like Sims, may not have a consistent spot in the rotation this year, he has a very good chance to make his case for one. He could also be among the most dominant players in the Summer League because of his stellar defense and playmaking.
