The Washington Commanders are preparing for their first official season under the team's rebrand. The franchise announced the official new name in early February, marking the beginning of a long and busy offseason.

Through the 2022 NFL Draft, trades, and signings, the Commanders got a lot done ahead of the 2022-2023 season. This included picking up quarterback Carson Wentz in a blockbuster trade with the Indianapolis Colts.

After finishing third in the NFC East this past year, the team believes Wentz is the guy to put them above .500 this season. Fortunately for the quarterback, he has a lot of talent around him entering his first year with the team. Here are the top three players that are expected to have breakout seasons for the Commanders.

Commanders Breakout Players for 2022 NFL Season

3. Brian Robinson Jr

The Commanders are pretty much set with Antonio Gibson as their No. 1 running back. However, he's been prone to lower-body injuries the past year, most recently picking up a hamstring injury in OTAs.

That being said, there's a good chance that Brian Robinson Jr gets a chance to prove himself this season. The Commanders selected Robinson in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He ran for 1,343 yards last season with Alabama on 271 attempts. His 84 broken or evaded tackles on rushes led the SEC. Robinson also rushed for 14 touchdowns, tied for the most in the SEC.

NFL Draft analyst Steve Muench described Robinson as “a big back who attacks the line of scrimmage and creates a lot of yards after contact.” The rookie has a lot of potential with the Commanders and could learn a lot from their third-year star in Antonio Gibson.

2. Jahan Dotson

While multiple teams had two first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Commanders only ended up with one. However, they certainly made the most of it, selecting Jahan Dotson 16th overall.

At 5'11”, 178 lbs, Dotson was ranked sixth among the wide receivers in his class and 25th overall. He recorded 91 receptions for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns for Penn State this past year.

While he's smaller than other rookie receivers, Muench described Dotson as a “sudden slot receiver with elite ball skills and excellent body control.” Dotson is expected to fit in perfectly with the Commanders alongside Terry McLaurin.

1. Carson Wentz

Finally, saving the most important for last, Carson Wentz. The quarterback has a horrible tendency of earning his spot onto teams only to be traded away the second things go wrong. He was shipped from Philadelphia to Indianapolis in 2021, only to be traded from the Colts a year later.

That being said, Wentz has a lot to prove this season, and he's steadfast in making that happen. He knew that joining the Commanders meant playing his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, twice each season. However, Wentz told the media that he's actually excited for the NFC East rivalry, specifically Week 10 in Philadelphia.

Wentz will have one of his best seasons yet and mirror his first two years in the league.
