Landon Collins is set to hit the free agency market this offseason after the New York Giants decided not to place the franchise tag on him. While it is shocking that the Giants are letting him walk this easily, Collins could not be happier to have the freedom to choose where to play the next chapter of his career.

There will be plenty of teams willing to throw big money at Collins, but there is one team in particular that would be a perfect fit.

Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts started the 2018 season off slow. They didn't appear to have a chance at the playoffs, but came back with a huge run to earn a Wild Card spot. Not only did they get into the playoffs, they knocked off their AFC South division rival Houston Texans in the Wild Card round.

Unfortunately, the season came to an end at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. While it was a tough way to go out, the Colts are now a team to watch. They have a star quarterback and a ton of young talent.

Signing with the Colts wouldn't be a “flashy” move for Collins, but it would give him the contract he wants and a chance to contend for a Super Bowl.

Let's dive in and take a look at three reasons the Colts should be Collins' top choice this offseason.

3. Collins Plays the Position of Need

The Colts have a solid, young defense, but they need a strong safety. Malik Hooker is an excellent talent at free safety, but Collins playing alongside him would be a deadly duo.

Indianapolis was thrilled with the production from rookie linebacker Darius Leonard. He ended up winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Anthony Walker also had a very good season for the Colts.

On the defensive line, the Colts have talent in Margus Hunt, Tyquan Lewis, Denico Autry, and a pass rusher in Jabaal Sheard.

Collins would fill the main hole on the defensive roster. Chris Ballard will also be searching for cornerback help, but adding Collins would go a long way towards shoring up their defensive backfield.

2. Indianapolis Is a Piece or Two Away from Contending

Most importantly for Collins, he would immediately be able to contend in the playoffs with the Colts.

After struggling through a couple of horrible seasons with the Giants, Collins will be ready to win. The Colts may not be talked about as a Super Bowl contender, but they are just a piece or two away. Frank Reich and company know that their time is coming soon.

Collins joining the team would put the Colts on the map even more. Indianapolis was a contender just a few short years ago and are hungry to get back to that level.

1. He Fits in with the Colts Long-Term

Finally, Collins is going to be getting a big deal this offseason. Indianapolis has the most cap space in the NFL, but they can also offer Collins the opportunity to compete throughout the entire contract.

As mentioned, the Colts are young. They have a ton of young talent that Ballard has built up through the draft. Collins is only 25 years old and a four-year contract would be perfect for him.

By the end of those four years, the Colts would be in their prime. That should be a scary thought for the rest of the NFL.

Indianapolis may not receive a ton of hype as a fit for Collins, but they are without question the best possible fit for him this offseason in free agency. Expect to see the Colts show interest early on.
