Kyrie Irving is going to have a lot of focus this offseason when NBA free agency opens up, but it has been reported that he has his eyes set on the Brooklyn Nets. While it's not a done deal, it seems very likely that he will end up signing with them when everything is said and done.

Brooklyn made a run into the playoffs this season behind the impressive improvement from point guard D'Angelo Russell. They have a solid team with Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert and have the cap space to add two max contracts this offseason. One of those may need to be Russell, who is a restricted free agent.

There have been reports that the Nets see a back-court of Irving and Russell working together. Some disagree with that sentiment, but it would be a lethal scoring duo, to say the least.

While pairing those two guards would be interesting, the Nets may have even bigger things in mind. Signing Irving would be a huge move in and of itself, but adding him could open the door to another move that would require max space. Russell may not even be in the picture next season if the Nets are able to pull off their main plan.

Let's dive in and take a look at three reasons why the Nets should go all-out to sign Irving this offseason.

3. Kevin Durant Could Be a Package Deal in a Perfect Scenario

Rumors have been flying that Durant and Irving would like to play together if they can find the right situation. Well, look no further than the Nets. They can offer both superstars a great fit with the money they're looking for.

Irving would be the first piece of the puzzle, with his ability to recruit a guy like Durant coming second. Kawhi Leonard could also be a name that the Nets could try to pair with Irving. Add in Jimmy Butler and the Nets would have quite a few wing options to pursue.

2. Irving Is Exactly What the Nets Are Missing

Let's put aside all of the drama in Boston from the past season. He had an amazing season, averaging 23.8 points per game to go along with 6.9 assists and 5.0 rebounds. Irving shot 48.7 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from the three-point arc.

We can't take away anything that Russell was able to do this season, but Irving is a better player. He can score at a more consistent rate and is more capable of being a playmaker for his teammates. Adding Irving to replace Russell would be an upgrade in the present and would help them compete in the East immediately.

1. A True Veteran Leading the Team

Again, this comes with a bit of backlash after the reports of unrest in Boston with the young players and Irving. Despite all of the reports, the young players for the Celtics repeatedly denied that Irving was a poor leader or teammate. It's time to believe that Irving can be a true leader for a team like the Nets.

Brooklyn can add veteran pieces around Irving to go with some of their young talent. They have the cap room and the desire to compete now. Irving apparently likes the direction that the organization is headed enough to be very interested in signing with them already.
