The Philadelphia Eagles can wrap up the NFC East with a win on Sunday against the New York Giants in Week 17. The Eagles are the favorites, and for a good reason, they are hands down the better team. Let's breakdown four reasons the Eagles are going to be crowned NFC East champions on Sunday.
4. Confidence
Both of these teams have confidence, but there is a little difference in the talent level of the last team they beat. The Giants faced one of the worst teams in football in the Washington Redskins. Even though they had success moving the ball, the defense couldn't slow down Dwyane Haskins or Case Keenum.
The Eagles played one of their most complete games of the season, especially on the defensive end. They know they are facing a rookie quarterback, and they have to be excited.
The Eagles also know how important a win is, while the Giants would benefit more from a loss. NFL teams don't try to lose games, but it'something to keep in mind with this game.
3. Miles Sanders
It seems the Eagles finally realize what they have with Miles Sanders and are using him properly. On the season Sanders has rushed 170 times for 766 yards and three touchdowns. Against the Cowboys, he had 20 attempts for 79 yards and a touchdown. He also caught five passes for 77 yards.
The Giants' defense overall has been terrible. On the season, New York is giving up 112.7 yards per game, good for 19th in the NFL. That takes the pressure off of Carson Wentz with the way the team has had success in the run game. This should be a big game for Sanders against a Giants defense that is going to be chasing him all for 60 minutes.
2. Eagles rush defense vs. Saquon Barkley
There is no doubt that Saquon Barkley is one of the best backs in the league, but he is going to have a lot of trouble against the Eagles defense. On the season, Philadelphia is giving up only 88 yards per game, which is third-best in all of football.
Barkley also has been inconsistent this year, perhaps partly due to the high ankle sprain. When these teams played earlier this year, Barkley only rushed 17 times for 66 yards and zero touchdowns.
If the Giants are going to win this game, it's going to come down to Barkley's game, and he is going to struggle. Without Barkley having success, the Giants offense isn't going to be moving the ball, even against a leaky secondary.
1. Carson Wentz
Carson Wentz played one of his best games against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16, throwing for 319 yards and a touchdown. This is another big game, and Wentz is going to rise to the occasion.
The Giants' defense is giving up 263.1 yards per game through the air, and the secondary is going to be eaten up again. Wentz, even without many weapons out wide, is going to sling the ball around.
Don't be shocked if Wentz finishes this game with over 300 yards and two touchdowns. He has stepped up in the biggest games and will lead the Eagles to an NFC East championship.
