Las Vegas, NV – The Golden State Warriors played their first game in the Las Vegas NBA Summer League. The Orlando Magic defeated the Warriors 91 to 89 in a very close match. Rookie Jonathan Kuminga had a solid outing, although he struggled from the field. He still managed to have 16 points 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block.

In his first appearance in Las Vegas, he showed flashes of greatness.

One thing Kuminga does at a high level is attack the rim. He uses his body well when going down the lane. He stays under control and takes it in with plans to score. He reminds you of two-time MVP winner Giannis Antetokounmpo when attacking the basket. The only problem with that is if defended well, passing when driving isn't his best skill, which is normal when you're a young talent such as Kuminga. As his development continues being more of a playmaker will come.

Even though he didn't connect on any of his four three-point attempts, Jonathan Kuminga doesn't look shy about shooting them. The only way to get better at shooting is to continue to get them up. It appears he understands that and wants to get better. Even if he never became a great shooter, last year's NBA Finals proved you can lead a team to the promise land without being a serviceable shooter, but of course, it would make things easier.

Moving on to the other side of the floor, Kuminga looks extremely impressive. Maybe one day, he could end up being special. It's not the fact that he had 3 steals and a block, but more of his timing on that end of the floor. He makes quick decisions on his feet, even if they cost him in some situations. When you second guess yourself, it causes you to get beat. Kuminga makes up his mind and reacts.

Some players look slower than they are. Jonathan Kuminga is deceptively fast. It doesn't look like he is blazing fast, but he beats people down the court and finishes nicely in transition. His ability to complete plays on the break is on an elite level. When he gets out into the open, his eyes light up, and defenders know they are in a lot of trouble. Playing on a defenses minded team like the Warriors could mean many highlight dunks for the rookie.

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, it is just one game. The only thing we know for sure is the Dubs have a young, exciting prospect who can potentially be the next face of the franchise. That's a lot to put on a young player, but thats the name of the business, and Jonathan Kuminga seems ready for the challenge.
