Emmanuel Sanders expressed that he would be open to re-signing with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, but the team hasn't reciprocated the same message. Nearly a week until free agency, Sanders hasn't had contract talks with San Francisco yet.

On Monday, someone on Twitter stated that the 49ers and Sanders were far apart on talks pertaining to a new contract. However, the veteran wideout responded by saying that no communication has been made between him and the organization.

Prior to the trade deadline in 2019, the 49ers acquired Sanders from the Denver Broncos. The trade involved the 49ers sending a third and fourth-round pick to the Broncos. In his 10 games with San Francisco, Sanders accumulated 36 receptions for 502 yards and three touchdowns.

As the season progressed, Sanders witnessed his role in the offense decrease with the emergence of rookie Deebo Samuel. Then, in the postseason, Sanders would combine for just five catches for 71 yards in three games. That includes a zero-catch performance versus the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game.

Similar to most teams in the NFL, the 49ers could be anxiously waiting for a verdict on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. If the new CBA comes into fruition, that could change the dynamic of free agency. Also, San Francisco is limited in cap space and wants to retain Arik Armstead on defense.

The team's limited finances coupled with Armstead's impending free agency could cause San Francisco to refrain from bringing Sanders back next season. Seeing that the team hasn't spoken to him yet, his time with the 49ers is likely coming to a conclusion.
