George Kittle made an extremely bold comparison recently. The superstar tight end said he sees similarities between 49ers young QB Trey Lance and the Bills' Josh Allen. Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in football so that is unquestionably high praise for Lance.
Kittle made the comments on a podcast entitled, “I Am Athlete.”
“He reminds me the most of Josh Allen,” Kittle declared. “He can move the chains whether it’s his feet, he’s a big body and can take hits, he wants to make plays, he’s got a cannon of an arm… he’s got an insane ceiling, that's what I'm so excited about.”
49ers fans have to be excited to hear that kind of comparison about their potential 2022 starting QB. However, there is still plenty of uncertainty revolving around Jimmy Garoppolo. NFL insider Ian Rapoport recently reported that Garoppolo was training away from the team. But he is still a member of the 49ers and there is a small possibility that San Francisco fails to find a trade partner for Garoppolo.
If he ends up not being traded that would place Trey Lance's position as starting QB in jeopardy.
The 49ers are also dealing with Deebo Samuel drama. The wide receiver/running back requested a trade last week. The 49ers have insisted that they do not wish to trade him but Samuel might have the star power to force himself out of San Francisco if he so pleases.
But George Kittle's remarks on Trey Lance should provide some much-needed positivity for 49ers fans.
