The San Francisco 49ers will more than likely be without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the team's looming Week 3 matchup against the lowly New York Giants. However, it appears as though the defending NFC Champion 49ers are optimistic that Garoppolo will be able to return for the team's Week 4 clash with the always dangerous Philadelphia Eagles.

Garoppolo, like many other NFL players throughout the league, suffered a leg injury in Week 2 against the New York Jets. Although the initial diagnosis on his injured ankle has come back better than expected, “Jimmy G” will probably still play it safe this time around before eventually returning to the field against the aforementioned Eagles.

Garoppolo was just one of many NFL players that suffered a significant injury in Week 2. One of the more brutal weeks in recent memory in terms of the number of the players that went down this weekend, big name players were being ruled out left and right whether it was a knee, ankle or Achilles injury. In addition to Garoppolo going down, the 49ers also lost the services of defensive lineman Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas, who both suffered serious knee injuries against the Jets. As a result, both Bosa and Thomas will now miss the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign.

The 49ers are currently an even 1-1 on the season as San Francisco has already managed to defeat the Jets after first coming up short against the rival Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Even without Garoppolo, the 49ers should be able to take down the Giants, who will be without superstar running back Saquon Barkley as he tore his ACL in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears.
