San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida has had a rough time dealing with injuries in the 2018 NFL season. However, his status for the matchup versus the Arizona Cardinals does not appear to be in jeopardy.

Breida was sidelined in last week's tilt versus the Los Angeles Rams early due to an ankle injury. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, he is still expected to play against the Cardinals:

49ers’ RB Matt Breida, listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals due to an ankle injury, is expected to play but be limited, per source. The 49ers want to use caution with him with all he has battled.

The update hardly comes as any surprise. Breida has played through injury all season and most of his career. However, it seems he is still doing what he can to make sure he can still suit up.

When healthy, Bredia has been the best player in San Francisco's backfield. He has rushed for 445 yards and two touchdowns on a whopping 6.5 yards per carry. He has also hauled in 11 receptions for 90 years and a touchdown. It appears as though he was ready to take on a potentially heavier workload early on in the year, however, concerns about his durability have prevented the Niners from pulling the trigger.

As a result, San Francisco will likely rely on a backfield by committee moving forward. Running back Raheem Mostert showed plenty of promise albeit against a porous Rams defense and he is poised to take over as the lead back if Breida cannot stay healthy. Meanwhile, running back Alfred Morris will likely serve as a complementary option to either two.
