With the coronavirus hysteria sweeping the country over the past few weeks, professional athletes are doing anything they can to protect themselves. San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert is taking every precaution possible.

Mostert took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that the autograph signing he was scheduled to attend on March 8 will be canceled. Several sports leagues and individual players have put out similar statements regarding the spread of the virus and Mostert states that the recent outbreak in the Bay Area is the reason for his decision.

Other than Mostert, Terry Bradshaw, Christian McCaffrey, Troy Aikman, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Bo Jackson, and Tim Brown are among the other listed participants at the three-day event at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Mostert, who has an eight-month-year-old son also announced that he is expecting a second child in March.

On the field, Mostert enjoyed by far the most successful season of his five-year career. The former Purdue star led the NFC-champ Niners with 137 attempts for 772 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Mostert also added 14 catches for 180 yards and two additional touchdowns as a pass-catcher.

According to the New York Times, California has reported 51 cases of coronavirus and just recently announced the first death in the state due to COVID-19.
