The San Francisco 49ers have arguably the best roster in the NFL, and it just got stronger on defense as the Niners signed two-time Super Bowl champ Logan Ryan to bolster their defensive backfield.

“Source: Long-time versatile DB Logan Ryan has signed with the #49ers, a potential big-time addition for December and their playoff run. Most recently, with the #Bucs and #Giants, Ryan lands in SF,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday. “The two-time Super Bowl champ can add leadership and experience to the #49ers secondary and potentially that third ring to his collection.”

New 49ers DB Logan Ryan was a third-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2013 NFL Draft. He won Super Bowls with the Pats in 2014 and 2016 before moving on to the Tennessee Titans and then New York Giants. In 2022, he hooked up with Tom Brady again on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for one season.

The 32-year-old cornerback-turned-safety has 742 career tackles, four fumble recoveries, 15 forced fumbles, 98 passes defended and 19 interceptions.

Ryan joins a 49ers defense that was already strong with names like Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, and Arik Armstead. This offseason, they added top free agent Javon Hargrave, and during the 2023 campaign, they’ve traded for Randy Gregory and Chase Young. And this may be the less talented side of the ball for San Francisco!

On offense, Kyle Shanahan has MVP favorite Brock Purdy along with superstars like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk. This is why, in many people’s opinions — including this writer — the 49ers are the best team in the NFL right now and should be the favorites to win the Super Bowl.
