Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL in his left knee on September 23rd but the hope is that he will be able to be a participant when the San Francisco 49ers start organized team activities. According to 49ers General Manager John Lynch, Garoppolo hasn't suffered any setbacks and the rehab process has been going really well.

“We’re hopeful he’s going to get to take part in our OTAs,” Lynch told Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. “That’s the plan, and he hasn’t had any setbacks, so he’s doing really well. I’m really proud of him, too.

Running back Jerick McKinnon also tore his ACL and Lynch said it's turned into a competition between the two guys on who can recover the faster from their injuries.

“Jimmy is vigorously trying to catch Jet, who is trying to separate from Jimmy, and so there's competition going on as well,” Lynch told Rapoport. “I think both those guys will tell you that's really helped them, (having) somebody to go through it with. It's fun.”

Garoppolo signed a big offseason extension last year and there were high hopes that he could lead the 49ers to the playoffs but those hopes ended in week three when he went down with the ACL injury. Lynch said one of the biggest things for Garoppolo is he just needs to play games because during his career he has only started ten games.

“Jimmy needs to play. He hasn’t played a ton of games. How can you try to recreate that? How can you try to grow from the neck up and in your football acumen, his ability, and experience in this system?”
