The San Francisco 49ers just can't catch a break. While Deebo Samuel is expected to suit up in Week 14 against the Cincinnati Bengals, the team received another injury blow with the absence of running back Elijah Mitchell.
With that said, the 49ers immediately activated running back Brian Hill from the practice squad just days after signing him.
Elijah Mitchell has missed the 49ers' practice over the week due to concussion. He sustained a head injury in their Week 13 game against the Seattle Seahawks, though he was able to return in the 30-23 loss.
Jeff Wilson Jr. is expected to start as running back for the 49ers, with Brian Hill backing him up on the thing rushing corps of the squad.
For what it's worth, it's not only the running back position that the 49ers have problems with. Their cornerback group also needs some bolstering with Emmanuel Moseley and Dontae Johnson out on Sunday against the Bengals. With that said, they also elevated CB Saivion Smith to the active roster to fill in the gap.
The 49ers could really use a win right now as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive. At 6-6 on the season, Kyle Shanahan and Co. know very well one mistake could doom their up-and-down season. It's up for the replacements to step up and help San Francisco take the W, but it is easier said than done against a franchise competing for playoff spots in the AFC.
