The San Francisco 49ers received some rather good news on Monday as they move on from their brutal defeat to the Los Angeles Rams during the NFC title game.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans will be staying with the 49ers after declining a second interview for the Minnesota Vikings’ head coaching job. Ryans was among a slew of candidates for the vacant head coaching job, and he was largely expected to gather more interest as a potential NFL head coach.

With that said, his decision to stay with the 49ers is definitely good news. As the team tries to improve from what they have built in the past season, continuity on their defense is something that will be a huge help for them.

Of course the 49ers still have plenty of questions to answer this offseason. For one, the talk of the town has been Jimmy Garoppolo’s future with the team.

San Francisco has been rumored to be moving on from the veteran quarterback after grooming Trey Lance to be their quarterback of the future. Jimmy refused to answer questions about possibly playing his last game for the 49ers, but he did hint it could finally be over when he said he has no regrets this season and is just thankful for getting the opportunity to reach the conference championship.

It remains to be seen what the 49ers will end up doing, but at least they have one problem solved with the return of their defensive coordinator.
