To make room for the addition of receiver Chris Thompson, the San Francisco 49ers are waiving receiver Max McCaffrey. Max is the older brother of Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, son of Ed McCaffrey, and older brother of Dylan McCaffrey, a quarterback at Michigan.

Side note: can I borrow a bit of talent from the McCaffrey family?

The 49ers also signed defensive lineman Jay Bromley and placed defensive lineman Kapron Lewis-Moore on the injured reserve in their slew of roster moves.

Max, 25, hasn't enjoyed the success of Christian in the NFL. After going undrafted out of Duke in 2016, McCaffrey has bounced around the league. First with the Oakland Raiders, then the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Packers again, and now the 49ers, he's seen many of the sites NFL cities have to offer.

The 49ers pulled McCaffrey off of the Packers' practice squad in December of 2017 on a two-year deal. He was injured the following preseason and released, then signed back onto the 49ers' practice squad in November. He was taken off of the practice squad before the season finale and activated onto the active roster. In his lone game with the 49ers, he didn't record a statistic. His lone NFL catch came with the Jaguars in 2017, for four yards.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound is now looking for his next NFL stop. Considering the preseason is a time of tryouts for many bouncing around the NFL, he should find another shot with a different team eventually. As of now, he's on the waiver wire.
