Free-agent defensive tackle Terrell McClain is set to visit with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

After spending time with the #Dolphins last week, free agent DT Terrell McClain is visiting the #49ers today, source said. Would be a solid late free agency add.

The 49ers will be McClain’s second visit after being released by the Washington Redskins in late April. He previously visited the Miami Dolphins last week.

The 29-year-old had 20 combined tackles and two sacks in 12 games for the Redskins last season. However, he made just two starts in those 12 games and was subsequently cut just one year into the four-year deal he signed with Washington the previous offseason.

Prior to his lone season in D.C., McClain played the previous three season with the Dallas Cowboys. He also spent time with the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, and Carolina Panthers during his seven-year NFL career.

McClain’s addition would add a veteran presence to a relatively young 49ers defensive tackle depth chart that includes a nine-year veteran in nose tackle Earl Mitchell along with four players with two years of experience or fewer: DeForest Buckner, DJ Jones, Sheldon Day, and seventh-round pick Jullian Taylor.

Defensive tackle isn't the only area where the 49ers could use an upgrade, though. They still have yet to find some much-needed help at defensive end even after recording the fewest sacks in the league last season. GM John Lynch still hasn't closed the door on bringing back veteran Elvis Dumervil, who led the team in sacks last season with 6.5.
