Tevin Coleman was unable to finish the NFC Championship Game for the San Francisco 49ers but it appears he's making good progress in his recovery. With less than a week until the Super Bowl, Coleman's shoulder is feeling better and he is hopeful to play on Sunday.
Early in the NFC Championship Game versus the Green Bay Packers, Coleman left with a shoulder injury. After some time in the locker room, it was discovered that the veteran running back suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Heading into the Super Bowl, the 49ers don't have many players on the mend. Therefore, plenty of people will be intently watching to see Coleman's availability in practice throughout the week.
Last offseason, San Francisco signed Coleman to a two-year deal worth $10 million. Kyle Shanahan was definitely on board bringing in Coleman to his multi-faceted offense. Prior to San Francisco, he worked with him when he was the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2016.
Despite sharing carries in a crowded backfield, Coleman rushed for 544 yards and six touchdowns in 2019. In addition, Coleman ran for 105 yards in San Francisco's playoff win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Besides Coleman, the 49ers also utilize Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida in the rushing attack. Just two weeks ago versus the Packers, Mostert gashed Green Bay's defense for 220 yards and four touchdowns.
Provided that, San Francisco would still be comfortable with their chances if Coleman was unable to go on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, since it's the Super Bowl, the 49ers are hoping to have Coleman available.
