We are right in the middle of the NFL season. The San Francisco 49ers take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. It's time to continue our NFL odds series with a 49ers-Jaguars prediction and pick.
The 49ers are coming off of a huge victory over the Los Angeles Rams this past Monday night. Nobody but the 49ers expected that big of a blowout win over what is supposed to be one of the better teams in the NFL. That comes to show how good the 49ers actually are, despite what their record says. San Francisco is just 4-5 on the season but are struggling against the better teams. That was their first win over a team with a winning record. Besides the divisional games, the schedule seems favorable for the 49ers to potentially get their names back into the playoff conversation.

The Jaguars continue to disappoint this season. They did beat the Buffalo Bills in Week 9 but they didn't even score a touchdown. They are 2-7 on the year and it is going to be difficult for them to win another game. This game against the 49ers is one where they could win, but I expect the 49ers to come out hot like they were in Week 10. San Francisco shouldn't have a problem against the Jags this week.

Why The 49ers Could Cover The Spread
This should be one of the easier games for the 49ers this season. They started out 2-0 but since then are 2-5 on the year. Week 10 turned out to be a huge bounce-back game for the 49ers as they dominated a very good Rams team. It's not often you see Mathew Stafford play as poorly as he did. The 49ers picked apart the Rams defense and Deebo Samuel played fantastic against one of the better secondaries in the NFL. That secondary contains Jalen Ramsey, so outperforming him in any given week is one to celebrate. Samuel finished with over 150 combined yards and two touchdowns.
The 49ers can cover this spread by playing exactly how they played in Week 10. They are facing a much worse team and one that is struggling big time. All the 49ers need to do is control the time of possession and establish a run game. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for just 182 yards in the win over the Rams, so that shows that he doesn't need to let it fly for the 49ers to be successful. If they can put up 31 points like that over a great defense, then they should have no issues against the Jags.
Why The Jaguars Could Cover The Spread
This is going to be a difficult game for the Jaguars to cover, but here is how they will get it done. Trevor Lawrence will need to step up and not commit a single turnover. He is going to need to find that connection with his receivers and also establish a run game. James Robinson will be healthy and he will need to play well for the Jags to have a chance. The Jags' defense is playing decently lately, and of course, played extremely well in their win over the Bills. They will need to see a similar performance from their Week 1o win if they want to be close.
The 49ers impose a difficult matchup for the Jaguars but if they can play well and make it close then it's something to build on. The Jags are not going anywhere this season but their main priority is getting Lawrence comfortable. Once that happens then you will start to see a rise in production and more points being scored. For Sunday, don't expect much production from the Jags' offense because of how good the 49ers' defense is.
Final 49ers-Jaguars Prediction & Pick
I'm taking the 49ers to cover this spread and win pretty easily. There should be no reason the 49ers don't win this game by at least two scores. They are off their best win of the season and will face a team that is doing whatever they can to stay relevant. I would also focus on the under for this game. With the over/under being where it is at now, I expect it to be considered a low-scoring game. The 49ers' defense is good enough to shut down anyone and they won't need to score 30+ points to win. That could be the case, but I expect the outing to be similar to what we saw last Monday night.
Final 49ers-Jaguars Pick: 49ers -6.5 (-115) & Over: 45 (-112)
