The San Francisco 49ers say they will field offers for offensive lineman Joe Staley, but it would take a rather large haul for the franchise to actually consider moving the veteran.

“Joe is a guy that I definitely want here and definitely a guy I wouldn’t want to lose by any means,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said, via the Sacramento Bee. “I’m not going to sit here — if anybody called for any one of our players, it’s not like you just hang up the phone. If people want to offer the world, you’ve always got to listen. You’ve got to always try to think what’s going to help your team and make your team better.”

Joe Staley is much like Joe Thomas in the fact both have played with iffy franchises for the majority of their careers despite being some of the best players at their positions. At least for Staley's sake, he had some good years during the Jim Harbaugh era.

Staley is signed through 2019 with base salaries of $4.8 million each year. That is actually a pretty team-friendly deal.

With the 49ers going through a massive rebuild, and Staley unlikely to be around when the team is competent again, it would make sense for the franchise to try to receive some assets in return for the gifted offensive lineman.

Only time will tell if other National Football League front-offices have enough guts to pony-up a good enough offer that the 49ers can't refuse.

Someone get Michael Corleone involved if they want to get Staley.
